For those seeking an accommodation in Florence, Uffizi Florence Rentals by Halldis represent the perfect solution for businessmen or tourists wishing to stay in their own apartment in the artistic and cultural heart of the city.
The Uffizi Gallery is the most famous museum in Florence, and one of the largest museums in the world, located on the Piazzale degli Uffizi, right next to the Piazza della Signoria. Initially commissioned to Giorgio Vasari da Cosimo I de’ Medici as a building to accommodate the administrative and judicial offices (hence the term uffizi) of the state of Florence. Over time, the building became a place of collection of the best works of art in the world. Today, the Uffizi houses thousands of paintings, ranging from medieval to modern day, sculptures, miniatures and tapestries. The famous collection of auto portraits, a collection of paintings by Botticelli and a collection of drawings and prints by Gabinetto are to be found here. A couple of steps away, one can find the Ponte Vecchio, one of the symbols of the city. The first construction dates back to the Roman times, but was repeatedly damaged by the rivers flooding and was rebuilt in 1345. The famous shops that are located on both sides, initially occupied by fishmongers, butchers and tanners, were later occupied by goldsmiths and jewelers under Ferdinand I, who didn’t appreciate this not very noble commerce and its unpleasant odor in his palace area. At the centre of the bridge, the shops are interrupted by two panoramic terraces: the one to the east is dominated by the Vasari corridor, while the other accommodates the Benvenuto Cellini monument, the most famous goldsmith of Florence. The fences around the CelliniMonument are full of padlocks with indelible writings, hung up by lovers who believe that it is a symbol of an indissoluble relationship; the keys to these padlocks are then symbolically thrown into the ArnoRiver, where nobody can ever retrieve them. The Vasari corridor dates back to 1565 and was built by Giorgio Vasari in order to enable access between the political and administrative centre of the VecchioPalace and the Medici’s private quarters, the PittiPalace. The corridor is raised for approximately one kilometer, from the Palazzo Vecchio, it passes above the Uffizi Gallery and the Lungarno Archibusieri, then passes over the shops on the left of the bridge and continues on the left bank of the river (“Oltrarno”) and stops at Palazzo Pitti. Well served by numerous public transports, one can find a number of bus stops here that enable easy access to practically every area of the city.
