For those seeking an accommodation in Florence, the Via Tornabuoni area is ideal for businessmen or tourists wishing to stay in their own apartment in one of the most chic areas of the city.
Via de' Tornabuoni, or Via Tornabuoni, is a road of the historical centre of Florence that goes from the Piazza Antinori to the Piazza Santa Trinita. It is one of the most elegant roads of Florence, dating back to the renaissance, and even today, has maintained a refined atmosphere thanks to the presence of the best designer and fashion boutiques as well as jewelers (Gucci and Ferragamo to start with, in the Maison Fiorentine). The roads golden age started in the Grand Duke era, when it became a popular place for parades, marches and street games such as horseracing, the ball and bracelet game (ancestor of tennis), or the Torneo dell'Anello, a competition where archers had to get an arrow inside a ring that was suspended in the middle of the street. The streets aspect was very different from one place to the other, especially when it passed in front of the TornabuoniPalace from which it takes its name: the road here was much narrower, about half the width it has today. On this road, and its neighboring extremities a number of palaces belonging to nobles were to be found. Among the most important, the Palazzo Spini Feroni, today home to the Salvatore Ferragamo museum, the Torre dei Gianfigliazzi, from the thirteenth century, founded by one of the richest Florentine families of the time, the Palazzo Medici Tornaquinci, that owes its name to one of the family branches of the Medicis and the Tornabuonis, the Palazzo Strozzi, one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces of Florence and the Tornabuoni Palace, an imposing building that practically occupies a whole block. Well served by numerous means of public transport, one can find a number of bus stops here that allow easy access to almost all areas of the city.
