Information Rome – airports and trains

Rome is one of the most important cities to visit in Europe due to its ancient Rome monuments, historical building and the Vatican. Once you fly into Rome here a quick information travel guide on how to get into and out of the city from the two main Rome airports.

Airport Rome:

There are several options to go the International Fiumicino-Leonard da Vinci Airport (FCO) to downtown Rome:

  • Express train: Leonardo Express leaves every 30 min from the airport to Rome train station Termini (40 min trip). Tickets cost 11€ and are available at newsstands or at the departure platform for an extra cost. Trains to Fiumicino depart from the track 24.
  • Regional train does not stop at Rome train station Termini but other smaller stations such Trastevere, Tiburtina or Ostiense where you get the Rome Metro. Tickets cost 5,50€ + 1€ for metro and remember to always stamp your ticket at any yellow validation machine.
  • Bus transportation Co.tra.l (blue buses) from the Rome airport the bus stop is located outside the arrival area in teminals B&C which take you to various locations in Rome. You can buy tickets at any ‘tabacchi’:
      • Airport -Termini-Tiburtina €3.60
      • Airport-Roma Cornelia (metro A) €2.80
      • Airport-Roma Magliana (metro B) €1.60
      • Airport-Fregene €1.00
      • Airport-Fiumicino city €0.77

The second mayor airport in Rome is the Ciampino International Airport (CIA) located south of Rome and where most low cost airlines fly into. Since there are no Rome trains to reach the city or airport, the most most accessible go is by taxi or by:

  • Bus and here are some companies that go to Ciampino:
      • COTRAL: Airport– Anagnina (A metro stop): 1,50€
      • Schiaffini: Aiport– Termini station: 5,00€
      • Terravision: Airport – Termini: 8,00 €

Pick-up service

Halldis offers our Rome clients the comfort and flexibility of the pick up service from either of Romes’ airports. A driver will be waiting for you outside the baggage claim area from either Fiumicino or Ciampino airport and take you directly to the apartment in a relaxing and comfortable car.

The cost of this service is the following:

      • Up to 2 people : EUR 50,00
      • Up to 4 people : EUR 60,00
      • Up to 6 or 7 people: EUR 75,00

Pick-up service between 22.00 and 06.00 we ask an surcharge of EUR 5,00. In case the driver waits more than 2 hours (delay) there will be an up charge of EUR 10,00 per hour. One piece of normal luggage a person is included in the price, if you would have more luggage we would like to ask you kindly to inform us in order to organize a suitable vehicle.

Rome Trains:

Rome is easily accessible by regional, national and international trains. The most important train station is Rome Termini located near the city’s centre and connected to the rest of the city by buses, taxis and the metro/underground (both A & B lines). A guide of other train stations in Rome include Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana and Tiburtina.

Rome by Car

Rome by car is only recommended if you intend to travel the Roman surroundings and countryside; otherwise you will have to face the rage of Roman drivers, smog, traffic and improvability to find a parking spot. Best advice is to find a garage and enjoy your holiday in Rome.
