The area

Life in Prati neighbourhood is centred mostly around the Vatican City and the Vatican Museums. The ‘Borghi area’ gives you the idea of how the district used to be before it was partially destroyed by Mussolini to build the ‘Via della Concilliazione’, the street leading directly to St. Peter's Square.
The pedestrian area of Borgo Pio offers many restaurants, bars and shops selling religious articles and objects of religious art. Castel S. Angelo, once the fortress of the Popes, is now a museum and is surrounded by one of the few green parks in downtown Rome.
The Prati area is a mixture of tourism, leisure and work, with the court of justice, elegant offices, shops, theatres, cinemas and restaurants of all kinds. If you take Via Cola di Rienzo – a famous shopping street – from Piazza Risorgimento all the way to the end and cross the bridge ‘Ponte Regina Margherita’ (Ponte Regina Margherita, also known as Margherita Bridge, is a bridge that connects Piazza della Libertà to the Lungotevere Arnaldo da Brescia), you reach Piazza del Popolo.
Don’t miss the covered market in Via Andrea Doria, one of the oldest markets in Rome. Its richness (273 stalls) is remarkable: dozens of stalls of fruit and vegetables, butcher shops, fish markets, but also accessories, clothes and much more. The flower market on Via Trionfale, only opened a few hours a week on Tuesday, is a charming place, entirely dedicated to flowers and plants.
For a tasty bite:
- ‘Vanni’, one of the most popular bars of the area, is much appreciated at lunch time and for cocktails. There are outdoor tables all year round, a big room where to have dinner with pizza and traditional Italian cuisine and many flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt as well.
- ‘Old bridge’ ice-cream parlour, in Piazza Risorgimento and opposite the Vatican walls, has been a major spot for ice-creams in Rome for 25 years.
