Koninginnedag: the Queen’s Day
The Koninginnedag (Queen’s Day), which is celebrated every year in Amsterdam on April 30th, is the most longed-for event in the Netherlands: more than 750,000 people will overflow into the streets wearing whatever they want as long as it is orange (the royal colour), participating in the numerous parties organized to celebrate the birthday of the queen mother. The morning of that day people usually wake up early to go to the traditional flea market to sell or buy things they don’t use anymore or that have been shelved for too many years.
Maggio Musicale Fiorentino
The “Maggio Musicale Fiorentino” is one of the most antique musical festivals in Italy, as its first edition dates back to 1933. For almost 2 months Florence is enlivened by events such as opera or contemporary music concerts, dance and various exhibitions related to music. The 74th edition of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, to be held in the Teatro Comunale and the Teatro Goldoni in Florence from April 28th to June 5th, has an important theme: the 150th anniversary of Italy Unification. On agenda operas such as the Aida, l’Italia del Destino; ballet dancings such as the Lago dei Cigni, a series of concerts directed by Zubin Mehta and performances dedicated to children in the Maggio Bimbi edition.
East End Film Festival 2011
The East End Film Festival is the cinema festival with local productions as well as International movies which will take place at the Rich Mix Cinema in London from April 27th to May 2nd. The Festival includes films and short films by world famous directors as well as conferences, special events and workshops. The aim of the kermes is to encourage the East Londoners’ local talent, being the starting point for the aspirant directors of the area, and of course to allow the big public to enjoy quality films form all over the world.
