New Year’s Eve in Love
For a New Year’s Eve sealed with a stamp of love, Piazza San Marco presents Capodanno Love: in this beautiful Venetian Piazza, the entire area surrounding the Basilica Marciana and Piazza Ferretto will be bustling with tourists and residents all set for the collective kiss, as the clock strikes midnight on the 31st of December. Piazza San Marco will provide the backdrop for lightshows and firework displays; a specially-erected tower will project lights, illuminating all the historic buildings in the piazza. The grand finale will be the choral kiss, sending out a message of love, peace and brotherhood, a good way to see in the New Year of 2011.
Roma Gospel Festival
Thirteen days of blues events will take place from the 19th to the 31st December as part of the Rome Gospel Festival, directed by Mario Ciampà. The Auditorium Parco della Musica will play host to concerts by spiritual music groups and gospel choirs from both the United States and worldwide. The festival has already earnt its place as the place to be amongst lovers of this type of music, which is extremely popular in Italy: now in its fifteenth year, it evokes the atmosphere associated with this special type of blues music, closely connected to the most reverent religious devotion, striking not only a chord with those who are very familiar with this music genre, but also with anyone who is enticed by its enthralling and captivating rhythm.
Christmas in the Arena
The 27th edition of Christmas in the Arena will be held from the 4th of December to the 23rd of January in the stunning setting of the Verona Arena. It is an international festival that features over 400 products from around the world, including nativity scenes, and nativity-themed sculptures and creations. The nativity scenes on display are divided according to their origin: the ones coming from Italy, divided by region as each geographical area of the country has its own particular traditions, and nativity scenes from the rest of the world. Additionally, there is an area devoted to dioramas; using a play on light, these special scale-models recreate scenes.
