Description
Lovely one bedroom apartment of 50 sq.m. with separate open mezzanine and a balcony overlooking the Arno river and the steeples and hillsides of Florence. Located on the third floor of a building (with no elevator) in Porta San Fredian.
Well restored, renovated with care, and in excellent conditions, the apartment presents the typical Tuscan trademarks of wooden beamed ceilings and terracotta flooring. Situated right next door to another one bedroom apartment available from us (on the same landing), the apartment is ideal for friends or a small family staying in Florence (itself sleeping 4 people comfortably), or a larger group or 2 families wishing to stay in 2 apartments close to each other (by taking both places, given their availabilities).
Once inside, the apartment greets its guests in a small corridor from which one goes into the sunny living room, a cosy room furnished with a classic floral couch and wooden round table, and enhanced by the French window which leads out onto the small balcony overlooking the Arno river and facing the beautiful towers and steeples of Florence.
Prior to entering the living room from the corridor one finds the kitchen, separate albeit looking out onto the living room, charmingly small, well designed and equipped with all necessities including a grill oven. The stairs to the open mezzanine are also prior to the living room entrance, making the mezzanine a private place, and with its single bed an ideal extra room for a third guest to sleep in.
The main sleeping area has a double bedroom, with two beds joined together (or separated, as needed) and an armoire. A small niche in the bedroom hides a small storage area and the washing machine. The bathroom offers modern fixtures and a shower stall.
Area
The apartment is located in a part of Florence called Oltrarno, which translated means "the other side of the Arno", close to the ancient city walls of the Porta San Frediano.
The apartment is easily accessible from the main train station, Santa Maria Novella, both on foot and serviced by bus lines (6-36-37).
The neighborhood is lively and full of quaint workshops, where still today the local artisans work with the same care and expertise all the handcrafted materials Florence is known for, such as silver, jewelry, leather and wood workings.
Behind the corner is Piazza Cestello, which dates back to 1628 and takes its name from the "Cistercensi" monks, an order founded in 1098 by Father Roberto de Bruges (known as the Cestello Monks), who settled there and founded their chirch and monastery.
Nearby is also Via del Piaggione, an ancient street with a historical name meaning the area in ancient times was sloping towards the Arno River.
